WordPress.org has a very simple step by step plan for getting started with WordPress.
Here is what is covered in thise valuable resource for beginners.
Step One – Read
Step One provides an overview of blogging and what WordPress can do for you.
Step Two – Make a Plan
Step Two helps you make a plan for your new website – hosting requirements, text editors, ftp software and that sort of thing.
Step Three – Install WordPress
Step Three deals with installing WordPress and all the problems that may come up from that.

Step Four – Set up WordPress

Step Five – Advanced Use of WordPress
WordPress.org goes a little further but not much. Now that you have a basic understanding of what WordPress is, you are ready to browse the web and see what else is available.
